The Leading Role: Women in Film Business Networking Event

With the aim of building on the successes of the 2018 edition of the Cape Town International Film Market and Festival, the CTIFMF, in partnership with the City of Cape Town, presents The Leading Role: Women in Film Business Networking Event.
Taking place from June 19th – 21st at the Civic Centre, the event will include a host of business oriented discussions, film screenings, an exhibition and networking opportunities.
The program starts on the 10th with guest speakers to include Jehad Kasu, Marketing Director of the CTIFMF and Dorette Potgieter, speaking about the Film for Offenders training program that will be followed by a screening of the film, The Ellen Pakkies story.
Cape Town International Film Market and Festival 2019
On the 20th of June, join the CTIFM Chairman Rafiq Samsodien and Cape Town Executive Mayor Alderman Dan Plato for the launch of the 2019 festival programme.
This will be followed by a talk from local actress and TV presenter Carishma Basday, who will speak on the reality of working in the film industry with a focus on diversity.
This session will be followed by the screening of the film Deep End (in which Carishma is the lead actress) and a networking session.
Friday the 21st will see Voyoakazi Matu May speaking about what the future holds for women in film and TV, with a screening of the film Sodium Day, whos Director Riaz Solker will be in attendance. The day wraps with a final networking session.
Throughout the three days an expo of women-owned businesses will also be taking place in the Civic Centre on the Concourse Level.
CTIFMF Marketing Director Jehad Kasu, explains the rationale behind the event further, “In announcing our plans for the 2019 CTIFMF, we found it pertinent to pivot this event on the importance of recognising and applauding the massive strides made by leading women in the film and allied industries, by celebrating some of them.
“At this three-day event, all interested parties will be immersed in an environment for knowledge-sharing, networking, entertainment and business development. We are excited to be a part of creating opportunities for stakeholders to engage for growth through mutual support and collaboration.”
