Silwerskermfees returns, celebrating the best in South African Cinema

Get ready for blue carpets and lights, the 13th KykNET Silwerskermfees is back to celebrate the very best of South African cinema. The festival is a highly regarded South African, Afrikaans and content festival that has supported and developed the local film industry.  

This year the festival takes place over 4 days, from 20-23 August 2025 with screenings happening at Theatre on the bay and The Bay hotel in Camps Bay and the awards ceremony at the CTICC 2.  

The film programme features around 33 films and documentaries of varying lengths, showcasing a diverse array of work from award-winning filmmakers as well as rising local talent.   

This year, the festival continues its partnership with Sunshine Cinema to provide screenings in communities. 

The two free solar-powered community film screenings will take place on Wednesday, 20 August 2025 at Wynberg Civic Centre, showcasing The Heart Is a Muscle and Thursday, 22 August 2025 at Grassy Park Civic Centre showcasing Finding Optel. Free tickets can be booked on Quicket. 

Alongside the film screenings, Silwerskermfees is running an extensive programme of masterclasses and panel discussions, facilitated by industry experts and filmmakers.
